Early on a Quincy morning the tide is out along Wollaston Beach, the flats go silver-brown all the way to the Boston skyline, and the neighborhoods behind the boulevard are only starting to wake. Clifden Landscape is out in that hour — mowers off the trailer, the first cut of the day laid down in clean stripes before the heat arrives. Yards from Squantum to the Wollaston side get mowing, trimming, edging and bed work, with cleanups in spring and again when the leaves come down. Sea air keeps the grass green late here, and a lawn cut tight against a granite step is a small, definite thing to be proud of. The reward is simple: the yard looks the way its owner pictured it, every week, without having to be asked.
