1620 Sanitation

About 1620 Sanitation

Every April the alewives push up Town Brook, and the grass along the banks wakes up right behind them. That is the signal 1620 Sanitation waits for — the first mow of the year, wheels leaving clean parallel lines across a Plymouth yard that spent five months the color of straw. Through the summer they keep the borders honest along walks and driveways, trim what the mower cannot reach, and carry the clippings away so a lawn looks finished rather than merely cut. Come November they work the oak leaves out of the beds and off the turf before frost pins them down. It is ordinary work done on time, and a well-kept yard on an ordinary street is its own small argument for the town.
