Out on East Chop the wind has nothing to slow it down, and the lighthouse takes the first of whatever Nantucket Sound decides to send. Derek's Landscape & Irrigation works both ends of that year in Oak Bluffs: mowing, edging and cleanups while the bluff grass is growing hard, then plowing and shoveling when the same lanes go white. Winter storms arrive with sea salt in them here, and clearing a drive before the morning ferry means starting well ahead of it.
