Downtown Northampton runs on its own rhythm — brick sidewalks along Main Street, the service lanes behind the storefronts, the small green square of Pulaski Park in the middle of it. Pedal People Co-Op Inc looks after lawns and green patches in this dense part of the city, where a yard might be twenty feet deep and fenced on three sides. Mowing, trimming, edging and clearing leaves and yard debris in autumn, all of it done in close quarters with the neighbors a few feet away. In-town grass takes a beating from foot traffic and winter road sand, and it comes back every spring regardless. Kept up, those small city yards are some of the prettiest ground in the valley.
