About Elmer's Landscaping & Construction Inc.

North of the town center the pines take over toward Harold Parker, and the yards there are carved out of sand and stone-wall country. Elmer's Landscaping & Construction Inc. mows and maintains those properties, working around pine roots, ledge and shade lines that move all summer. Grass under white pines is a negotiation, and winning it takes overseeding, careful cutting and clearing the needles before they mat everything down. Fall is the long stretch here — cleanup after cleanup, the woods letting go for six straight weeks. When the last load goes out and the lawn lies open and combed in the cold light, that is the good part of the job.
