Route 2 climbs out of North Adams through the hairpin and up into the clouds, and everything below it — the side streets, the steep little dooryards, the drives cut into the slope — takes the same weather a few hundred feet lower and just as much of it. KAW Landscaping keeps that ground open, plowing grades that do not forgive a lazy pass, clearing walks down to footing, stacking snow where it will not slide back down overnight. In summer the same properties are mowed, trimmed and edged, with cleanups at both ends of a short growing season. Berkshire snow arrives dry and deep and keeps arriving well into April. Getting a hillside drive cleared before sunrise is the sort of thing nobody watches and everybody notices.
