Route 1A runs south out of Newbury past fields that go on until the Great Marsh takes over, and Tendercrop Farm keeps its acres out along that stretch. Farm work teaches a certain way of mowing — even passes, no scalped corners, a headland turned clean — and the same hand goes into the lawn care the farm takes on around town. That means mowing on a steady rotation, trimming where a machine can't reach, edges brought back to the pavement, and cleanups when spring thaws the ground or the leaves finally come down. Newbury light in late June runs long and gold across cut grass, and there are worse things to look at than a yard finished just before supper.
