April on Clark's Cove still carries a cold west wind, and yet the grass along Rodney French Boulevard greens up ahead of the rest of the city. Ziedenburg's Landscape & Design opens the year out there and inland both: the first cut, beds edged back to a clean line, winter's litter raked out of the corners where it collected. Salt air and the sandy soil of the South End make their own demands, and lawns near the water get handled like the coastal ground they sit on. Through the warm months it settles into rhythm — steady mowing, trimming around fences and foundations, lines straight enough to read from the street. A yard that looks tended changes the feel of a whole block, reason enough to get it right.
