Trimming Edge

About Trimming Edge

Late-summer dusk on the Mill Street side of Westfield: the heat lets go, somebody's sprinkler ticks away, and every hedge on the block is one week past due. Trimming Edge lives in that week — mowing, shearing hedges back to a true line, running a clean edge along walks and drives, then clearing the clippings so nothing is left but the shape. The city's older streets are full of plantings that have grown into one another, and pulling them back into distinct forms is the pleasure of the job. A lawn is not finished when it is cut; it is finished when its borders are drawn. That last look back down the sidewalk is why the work gets done right.
