November dusk comes down over Wills Hill early, the bare maples going to ink against a sky the color of cold water. That is changeover week for JD Tree & Landscape Services: the last mowing behind them, leaves cleared off the lawns along North Main Street, mower decks traded for plow gear before the first flakes test the hill roads. Middleton's rises are gentle right up until they glaze over, and a driveway on a slope wants plowing early and often rather than once and heroically. Warm months here mean mowing, trimming and cleanups; cold months mean plowing, walkways and salt on the hard corners. Same houses, same doors, a different tool in hand — and a town that keeps moving either way.
