East of the center, the old Manchester and Lawrence line is a rail trail now, and after a night storm it lies unbroken and blue-white until the sun finds it. Avedisian East works the hours before that — headlights swinging into driveways, the scrape of the blade, banks pushed back far enough that the next storm has somewhere to go. Snow reaches Methuen sideways off the open ground, drifting against garage doors and filling in behind you while you work, so the job is counted in return trips rather than single passes. There is a particular satisfaction in a driveway squared off at the corners with the mailbox still standing. By breakfast the street is moving again, and the trail keeps its snow a while longer.
