Saturday morning in West Medford has a sound to it, and a good share of that sound is mowers. Medford Mowers is part of the chorus, working the streets between the river and the tracks: mowing on a set schedule, trimming along fences and foundations, edging the sidewalk line, and cleanups when spring opens up and when fall shuts it down. The yards over here are old and shaded and full of roots, so a machine has to be handled rather than just pushed. The reward is a lawn with visible stripes and a walkway you could sweep with a broom. Then the trailer gate goes up and the street goes back to its coffee.
