Vintage Lawn Care works the close-set yards of Maynard, the little mill town folded along the Assabet River where old brick smokestacks still catch the first of the morning light. Warm months are for mowing — the long, even passes that leave a lawn breathing and green behind the weathered woolen blocks and the narrow streets that climb up from the water. When the first hard freeze locks the ground, the work turns to snow, driveways scraped clean while the town is still dark and the river runs black between its banks. There is a plain, honest pleasure in a crisp-cut edge and a cleared path underfoot, the kind of work that shows itself right there on the ground it tends.
