The bridge over to Humarock takes the weather straight on, and anything built near that water in Marshfield learns to live with wind. Smith and Sons works the yards on this side of the river — mowing, edging and trimming through the season, with cleanups to open spring and close out autumn. When snow shuts the roads down the trucks head out to plow drives and clear the walks before anyone needs to be anywhere. That work is simple to describe and hard to do at four in the morning, which is when it needs doing. A property looked after all year rarely has a bad week.
