There is a blue half hour before sunrise in February when Marion is all snow and salt marsh and nothing at all is moving out toward Wings Cove. Tree Busters is out in it, plowing driveways, pushing back lots and shoveling the steps and walkways no plow can reach. Wind off the water sets a crust on everything by second light, so the earlier pass is always the better one. The satisfaction is uncomplicated — a wide clean driveway, banks shoved well back, and a truck heading home as the rest of the town starts turning on its lights.
