By late afternoon in July, Flax Pond throws a long copper light across the east side of Lynn and the yards along its streets go soft and gold. C&A Lawn Care Services spends those days on the mower, grass cut to an even height, edges run true along driveways and walks, clippings blown off the concrete before the truck moves on. Summer here grows fast after a warm rain, so the route comes back around and does it again. Fall turns the same lawns into a job of rakes and tarps, leaves out of the beds and out of the corners. What they leave behind is plain and worth doing: a yard a family can walk barefoot into after supper.
