Winter mornings in Lowell start dark, with steam lifting off the Pawtucket Canal and the plows out ahead of the first bus. J D Landscaping runs that early shift — driveways opened, walks shoveled, salt down on the steps while the mill windows are still black. By April the same trucks trade blades for mowers, and the season turns to weekly cutting, trimming and edging across the tight downtown blocks and the wider yards out toward Chelmsford. There is a particular pride in a driveway cleared curb to curb with no shelf left at the apron, and in a summer lawn that holds its stripe all week. One outfit, two weathers, the same streets.
