Smelt Brook runs quietly down to the old landings, and Kingston's year turns on that water — spring running high, January locked and still. The Gardeners work both ends of it: mowing, trimming and cleanups from the first thaw through leaf-fall, then plowing and shoveling once the drives need opening at dawn. Yards here sit between marsh, pine and pavement, and each one wants slightly different handling to look right. The pleasure is in the finish — a crisp edge in July, a driveway cleared to the blacktop in February. Kingston, MA and the towns bordering it are all served.
