Out toward Gates Pond Road the Hudson yards run big and open, and by mid-July the sun has its way with them well before two in the afternoon. Tavares Brothers Landscape mows those lawns early, while the dew is still down and the cut comes off clean, then works back in toward the closer streets. The routine is unglamorous and exacting: even height, a sharp trim line, edges cut, no clippings windrowed across a walk. Spring and fall bring the heavier passes, beds cleared and mulched, leaves lifted off the turf, the yard set right for the months on either side. What they are chasing is the look of a lawn somebody obviously loves.
