October along the Lake Boon end of Hudson turns the maples over all at once, and for a few weeks the town is mostly leaves. Dave's Landscape works through them, blowing and gathering and hauling until the lawns underneath come back into view and the beds are put down for the cold. The rest of the year keeps its own rhythm: weekly mowing, trimming along walls and posts, edges cut sharp where turf meets pavement. Then January arrives and the same driveways sit under a foot of snow, plowed and shoveled and sanded while it is still dark out. Watching a property come clean, whether the mess is leaf or blade or snow, is the part that makes the alarm clock tolerable.
