The Mount Tom range takes the first hit of every storm crossing the valley, and what spills off that ridge lands on Holyoke by the truckload. DWE Landscaping runs through those nights with the plow down, opening drives and lots while the wind is still rearranging the snow. Steps, walks and the strip out to the street are cleared by hand, and traction goes onto the pitched drives up in the Highlands where a car would otherwise never reach the top. Valley storms like to finish as freezing rain, so the last pass counts as much as the first. Come morning the pavement is dark and the day is allowed to start.
