Heath sits high in the hills of Franklin County, along the Vermont line, where the first snow can arrive while the valley towns below are still raking leaves. In 1744 colonists raised Fort Shirley here as a frontier outpost; these days the frontier is the stretch of white between a farmhouse and the plowed road. Johns Tree Service takes on that winter, clearing drives and footpaths with plow and shovel so Heath households can get down the hill when they need to. After a storm there is quiet gladness in a lane opened clean, the snow banked neatly and the morning's tire tracks heading out. Snow lingers a long time in Heath; Johns Tree Service makes sure it does not keep anyone in.
