Winter arrives in Harvard across Bare Hill Pond — a flat sheet of wind that reaches the hill roads long before anyone's alarm goes off. Jehovah Jireh Landscapes works those hours, plowing and shoveling the long climbing driveways off Depot Road so the first car out of the garage meets clean pavement instead of a drift. By May, when the orchard ridges go white with blossom, the trucks are carrying mowers instead, and the week fills with mowing, trimming and edging lawns that run right up against old fieldstone. There is a particular satisfaction in grass cut clean along a stone wall, and in a walkway salted before the school bus makes the corner. Harvard is a town of long views and short driveways set far back from the road, and both ask for tending. That tending is the job.
