On a May morning the mist comes off Bare Hill Pond and hangs in the low yards along the shore road until the sun gets over the hill and burns it off. That is when Dan's Lawn & Landscape starts, while the dew is still heavy and the grass is standing up straight and asking for it. The work is mowing and trimming and edging, mulch in the spring, cleanups when the leaves come down, all of it aimed at the same plain result: a lawn that looks deliberate from the driveway and feels good underfoot. Harvard's yards are rarely square, cut up by ledge and old trees and long sloping approaches, and there is a craft in reading one and choosing the line. By noon the mist is long gone and the stripes are still there, and that is the whole point.
