Amherst Nurseries

About Amherst Nurseries

Route 9 through Hadley runs flat and open between two college towns, and in April the whole corridor turns at once — mud to green in the space of a couple of warm weeks. Amherst Nurseries works that stretch and the side roads off it, mowing, mulching and cleaning up winter's wreckage so properties look ready for the season ahead. Come December the assignment changes to plowing lots and driveways, clearing walks, and sanding the entries before the first cars of the morning arrive. Wind crosses the valley floor here without anything to slow it, which means drifting, which means going back around. Doing it right is simply this: the pavement bare, the grass even, and nobody having to think about either one.
