Groton is stitched together with old stone walls — they run through the orchard hills and disappear into the woods, holding lines drawn by people long gone. Roots & Rocks Landscape Artisans works among them, keeping lawns mown and edged, beds mulched, spring and fall cleanups done while the light lasts. October turns the whole town copper and then, sometime after Thanksgiving, hands the job over to the plow: driveways cut open, walkways cleared, sand down where the north side of a house stays glazed till noon. There is pride in both ends of it — a lawn that looks combed in July, a dooryard that is passable at six in the morning in January. Same eye, different weather.
