October slides down off the Nobscot ridge and the hayfields at Callahan State Park go the color of old brass. Pheasant Hill Landscape spends that stretch pulling leaves off Framingham lawns — mowers dropped a notch, beds cut back, the last cut taken before the ground stiffens for good. Then the work turns over: plow blades on, driveways opened while it is still coming down, walkways cleared to bare stone and treated. There is a real pleasure in a yard put to bed right in November and found again, unbruised, in April. Same trucks, same roads, known corner by corner.
