About G Bourne Knowles & Co. Inc

In Acushnet the land lies low and open, cranberry bogs holding the last of the light long after the sun has left the road. G Bourne Knowles & Co. Inc works that flat, generous ground — mowing, trimming and edging through the green months, then reading the December sky for the first hard change. Winter here comes off Buzzards Bay damp and heavy, and a driveway out on the plain can go from wet to white between one cup of coffee and the next. The plow goes out early so someone can back out at seven without thinking about it. There is a particular pleasure in a lawn edged clean along the walk, and in a dooryard scraped down to bare pavement before anyone is awake to see it done.
