Landcare

About Landcare

Everything in Essex answers to the tide — the marsh grass leaning, the river running silver past the causeway, the light changing three times in an afternoon. Landcare tends the lawns that sit on that edge, where salt air and sandy ground make grass work for its green. Mowing on a straight line, trimming close along fences and stone, raking a yard back into order after a blow off the water: the reward is in the after, the whole place sitting quiet and even. In autumn the marsh goes gold and the leaves come down all at once, which makes for a long and satisfying day of cleanup. Drive past the next morning and it still holds its shape.
