Ken's Rubbish Removal

About Ken's Rubbish Removal

The morning after a storm, Erving Center is muffled: the mill along the river steaming faintly, the Millers running black between white banks, every parked car a soft white loaf. Ken's Rubbish Removal is already moving by then, plowing driveways and dooryards, pushing back the ridge the town plow left across the apron, clearing walkways so the mail and the barrels can get out to the curb. A scoop of sand goes on the shady stretch by the garage that never quite thaws. No fuss to any of it — just the sound of a blade on pavement, and afterward a driveway you can back out of without thinking about it.
