East Brookfield is a small town wrapped around a lake, and Lake Lashaway sets the tone for the whole year — glassy at dawn in July, steel-colored and steaming by December. Elliott Services works both ends of that: mowing, trimming and edging the yards on the lake roads and out toward Podunk while things are green, then plowing them once the water goes hard. Summer is a question of routine, a set day and a finished edge; winter is a question of hours, drives opened before the Route 9 traffic wakes up. Walkways get shoveled, steps cleared, sand laid where a slope plainly wants to be trouble. Spring and fall cleanups close the loop, and the small town keeps looking like itself.
