The Housatonic is barely more than a brook where it slips through Dalton, and on a July evening you can hear it under the sound of a mower two streets over. Brennans Mowing and More is often that mower — cuts on a steady week, trimming, edging at the curb and the walk, mulch in the beds, cleanups in spring and fall. Berkshire winter is a different job entirely, and the same trucks take it on: plowing driveways, opening walkways, shoveling steps, salting where ice sets in. Storms come over the hills from the west here and tend to drop more than the forecast promised. Dalton and the towns near it get both halves of the year.
