Four in the morning at Monument Square, and the storm has finally eased; the streetlights still hold their cones of falling flakes and the road out toward the Old North Bridge is one long white ribbon. Kevin's Lawn & Plowing Service is out in it — plowing drives, clearing walkways, shoveling steps and spreading salt so the first coffee run of the day has somewhere to put its tires. By May those same routes turn green and the truck trades the blade for mowers, trimmers and edgers, with cleanups bracketing the season at either end. Concord asks for both jobs, and gets them. The reward is small and repeatable: a clear apron of asphalt at dawn, a lawn cut level by supper.
