About Jr Grady & Sons

Jr Grady & Sons works the steep, brick-lined streets of Clinton, Massachusetts, where the Nashua River slips past old mill walls and the Wachusett Dam holds its long gray water behind granite. This is snow work: plowing, cutting driveways down to bare pavement, opening walks and front steps, spreading sand and salt where the hills go slick before daylight. There is a real pleasure in a storm-morning drive scraped clean and square-edged while the streetlights are still on, in that black line drawn straight through a white yard, in a doorstep somebody can step out onto without thinking twice about it. The crew reads Clinton's grades and its wind the way it reads the neighboring towns — Lancaster, Berlin, Bolton, Sterling, Boylston, West Boylston — one banked corner and one narrow driveway at a time. By the hour the sky clears over the reservoir, the town is already moving.
