On the eastern side of Chicopee the houses thin out and the oaks close in, and on a June evening you can hear the last mower of the day shut off two properties away. White Hollow Yard and Home works that quieter edge — grass cut and trimmed, hedges shaped, mulch laid, brush and old leaves pulled out of the tree line where the yard gives up and the woods begin. Autumn out here is a long haul of leaves; winter is the long drives, plowed, with paths cleared by hand and salt on the shaded stretches that never see sun.
