April at Szot Park is all first sounds — bats on balls, a mower running two streets over, the ground dry enough at last to walk without leaving a print. JC Lawn Care LLC starts its year about there and works outward: mowing, trimming, edging, mulch in the beds, hedges tidied, the winter's grit raked off the lawn in the spring cleanup. By November the truck changes clothes. Then it's plowing, shoveled walks, salt and sand on the short steep driveways this city is full of, as many times over as the sky asks. One outfit for both halves of a Chicopee year.
