Garran-Teed Property Services keeps the sandy, salt-bitten ground of Chatham — out where the Cape bends its elbow into the Atlantic and the light arrives twice, once from the sky and once off the flats. Their days run through mowing and mulching, spring and fall cleanups that carry the leaves and brush away for good, tree work and trimming, stump grinding, plantings, grading and skid steer work, drainage, and hardscape walkways, patios, fire pits and retaining walls set true into the sand; when a nor'easter shoulders in off the water, the drives get plowed back down to pavement before the coffee cools. There is a plain, physical satisfaction in a lawn cut clean to its edges beneath scrub oak and bayberry, in a yard put properly to bed in November so it comes back honest in May. They watch over houses across the Lower Cape through the quiet months too — inspections, storm preparations, repairs, painting and deck staining — so a place stays cared for whether anyone is home to see it or not.
