Babe's Lawn Care

About Babe's Lawn Care

Weather comes into Brimfield off the Quaboag hills — fog pooling in the hollows at dawn, a slant of hard January light on Route 20, summer heat sitting heavy over the pines of the state forest — and the work answers it hour for hour. Babe's Lawn Care keeps the green months in order: mowing, trimming and edging, hauling off what the hardwoods let go each spring and fall, laying mulch that darkens every bed to the color of wet earth. When the hills go white the hours flip, and the job becomes plowing, clearing walkways, and putting down sand and salt on ice that likes these low, shaded stretches of road. There is a plain, physical pleasure in a lawn striped clean up to an old stone wall, and in a driveway already black and open before the porch light goes off. It is lawn and snow work done for Brimfield and the towns around it, the way this particular corner of the Quaboag Hills asks for it.
