First light comes up off the Cape Cod Canal, and the sandy yards of Bourne take on that pale, salt-washed color the Cape keeps for its mornings. Larrys Landscape works these streets between Buzzards Bay and Monument Beach — designing and installing plantings, keeping beds and lawns tended through the growing months, choosing native selections and setting irrigation into ground that runs to sand and scrub pine, mulching a wide front yard until the whole line of it reads clean from the road. Come winter the same driveways get cleared early, plowed back to bare pavement while the harbor is still dark and the bridges are still empty. There is a plain, physical satisfaction in the result: a mown lawn holding its lines in the long shadows of a July evening, a bed edged so crisply the mulch sits like a held breath, a yard that looks looked-after from the mailbox on.
