Bigelow Landscape Co works the sandy shoulder of Bourne, where the Cape Cod Canal splits the town in two and the wind off the water carries salt into every pitch pine. Summer here is mowing and edging against fast-draining ground and grass that has to earn its green — a straight stripe laid down the lawn, a clean line drawn where turf meets driveway, clippings cleared before the afternoon light goes gold over Buzzards Bay. Come winter the same routes turn into plow routes: driveways opened before dawn, walks scraped down to pavement, the way toward the bridge made passable while the village is still dark. Spring and fall bring the cleanups, the pine needles and oak leaves that drift into the corners of a Pocasset or Cataumet yard, raked out until the beds look intentional again. It is plain work, and it shows — a property that reads as tended in every month it is asked to hold up.
