From the high side of Route 6A in October the Great Marsh runs out gold toward Sandy Neck, and the good light lasts about an hour. Tim Acton Landscaping is finishing lawns in it — last mowings, edges cleaned, leaves cleared off before the wind puts them back. Fall on this end of Barnstable is a race with the oaks, and the yards that win it go into December looking swept. Spring cleanup, mowing, trimming, mulch and bed maintenance carry the rest of the year at a calmer pace. Turf that comes out of winter clean is the reward for an autumn done properly.
