Early morning in Attleboro, when the mist is still lying low along the Ten Mile River and the brick mills hold the first gold light on their west walls, MTL Lawncare is already out with the mowers. There is a real pleasure in what they leave behind — the striped pass across a yard, the trimmed line that follows a granite curb exactly, hedges shaped back into themselves, mulch laid dark and even so the beds look deliberate again. Spring and fall bring the long work of clearing what the oaks let go, along with aeration, dethatching, and weeding that gives the grass its footing back. Come January, the plow trucks run the driveways of Attleboro, Seekonk, Norton, Foxborough, Mansfield, Wrentham, Easton, Sharon, Walpole, Taunton, Brockton, Bridgewater, and over the line into Rumford, opening a black path to the street before most of the neighborhood has found its boots. It is honest, physical work, and the whole town wears the result.
