Late August loosens its grip on Arlington and the work turns with it — mowers still humming across the slope below Robbins Farm at midweek, while the first fall cleanup rakes wait in the truck bed. Craig's Landscaping works these glacial hills between Spy Pond and the Mystic, laying bluestone and paver patios, setting retaining walls, steps and walkways into yards that were never quite level to begin with, and cutting drainage where the runoff has always wanted to go. Then comes the ordinary devotion: mowing, mulching, shrub trimming, fertilization, irrigation, lawn restoration, sod, and new trees and shrubs settled in before the ground closes for the year. There is a particular satisfaction in the last pass of a season — the edge crisp along an old Menotomy sidewalk, a driveway freshly paved and dark as river stone, a yard put right and ready to hold whatever weather comes over the Heights. That care runs through Arlington, Lexington and Winchester, and carries on into Belmont, Medford, Cambridge, Somerville and Woburn.
