Deterra & Sons Excavation

About Deterra & Sons Excavation

Acushnet keeps its stone walls low and its dooryards close to the road, with hedges leaning out over the pavement where Main Street runs north along the river toward Long Plain. Deterra & Sons Excavation works those yards and driveways — mowing and lawn care through the green months, earth and site work when a piece of ground needs shaping, and plowing when the wind comes up off Buzzards Bay and turns the cranberry bogs white. There is a plain, physical pleasure in it: the last pass of the mower laying a clean stripe to the wall line, the drive opened before the first car of the morning, a gravel edge holding exactly where it was set. Come March the salt air softens the frost and the work begins over again, and the yards along the Acushnet look tended, held, ready for whatever comes next.
