About Corley’s lawn service

Woodworth sits in longleaf pine country south of Alexandria, where the soil runs sandy and the shade travels all day. Come spring, when the centipede grass finally wakes and the pines let go of another year of straw, Corley's lawn service starts the rounds. Mowing here means working around root flare and stump line and the odd patch of deep shade, and it means pulling the straw off before it smothers what is coming up underneath. The trimmer takes the fence corners and the mailbox; the blower carries the dust of Highway 165 back off the driveway. A yard cut clean under those pines has a particular look to it: dark green, wide open, quiet.
