Merryville sits where the longleaf pines run down toward the Sabine, and every yard out here has to make its peace with pine straw, sandy soil and shade. U Grow-We Mow takes the mowing on that ground — open lots and deep front yards, an edge cut where the gravel gives way to grass, the trimmer worked around porch piers, propane tanks and pine trunks, and the straw raked off before it smothers what is underneath. Growth comes on hard from April forward, then eases when the west Louisiana nights finally cool and the light goes thin through the timber. The name lays the arrangement out plainly: the grass does its part, and somebody shows up with a sharp blade to do the rest. A mowed yard under those pines has a settled, unhurried look to it, and that is the point.
