Father & Son Cutting Up

About Father & Son Cutting Up

Late afternoon on Airline Highway, the crape myrtles drop pink along the shoulder and somewhere off the road there is andouille smoke on the air — LaPlace in a single breath. Father & Son Cutting Up finishes the day in that light, wrapping a last yard: an even cut, a trimmed ring around the mailbox and the fence posts, walkways swept down to bare concrete. The final pass of the evening gets the same attention as the first of the morning, which is how a lot goes from overgrown to orderly without anybody rushing it. The growing season runs long here, easing only for a few cool weeks, so the route keeps its rhythm most of the year. The name is a joke; the results are not.
