The Licking River runs slow past Wilder, and on an August evening the whole valley holds its heat until well after the sun drops behind the hills toward Newport. Davis Landscape works those bottomland yards and flat river-side lots, mowing on a rhythm that keeps ahead of grass fed by humid nights and heavy dew. Beds get cleaned and edged, shrubs get shaped back, and the turf gets left even from the sidewalk to the back fence. Northern Kentucky yards are close-set and much looked-at, so the border between one property and the next deserves a definite line. When fall arrives and the sycamores along the water start dropping, the leaves get cleared and the place is left open and neat.
