Mr Green Thumb

About Mr Green Thumb

Seven in the morning in Nicholasville, and the dew is still heavy enough to darken a pair of boots. Mr Green Thumb handles the mowing, the trimming and the edging on yards that roll the way Jessamine County ground always rolls — a little up, a little over, thin topsoil resting on old limestone. Fog lies in the Hickman Creek bottoms until the sun climbs high enough to lift it, and by then there are stripes laid down and a clean line cut along every walk and drive. Summer here arrives humid and fast-growing, so the schedule stays tight and the clippings never get ahead of anybody. It is a plain sort of pride: a yard that looks looked-after before the house is fully awake.
