Lawnboy

About Lawnboy

Saturday mornings in Maysville start with the bridge humming out over the water and half the town's mowers waking up one street at a time. Lawnboy is one of those engines, working the neighborhoods that step down toward Limestone in short blocks and small square yards. Little lawns are their own discipline, since everything is border, everything shows, and there is no room to hide a sloppy turn. So the pattern gets planned, the trimmer goes around fence posts and the base of every porch step, and the sidewalk gets blown back to bare concrete. By afternoon the street reads like a run of neat green tiles dropping toward the river, which is a fine thing to leave behind you.
